PC reboots when told to shut down

My friend has a Compaq Evo 1.8 which I've recently reinstalled. Now, when
she tells it to shut down, it obediently does so but then goes on to reboot.
I can't see anything in the BIOS options or by fooling around in Control
Panel which could account for this (let alone stop it!). Any ideas?
 
Turn off AutoReboot in System Startup and recovery. Guessing that it is
actually crashing on shutdown and thats forcing a restart.
