I recently put a 1ghz AMD Athlon cpu into my pc, but
there is a problem. After about 30 mins use, it cuts out,
but the power stays on. No signal is sent to the monitor
and I cant turn it back on for about 10-15 mins. I guess
the cpu is over heating, what's the best way to combat
this? What's the standard heatsink/fan I should be using
for this cpu? Is it worth buying an additional fan of
some sort?

Did you properly install the heat-sink? Most come with
heat-sink compound already on the heat-sink but it is
covered with protective tape, did you remove the tape?

Most computer store will have properly sized heat-sinks and
fans for the CPU. You may also want to add a case fan to
remove any hot air trapped in the case. Make sure the
air-flow is unobstructed by cables, it should be in at the
front bottom and out at the to rear (generally) for most
cases. There are arrows on the fan housings to show the
direction of air flow.
