Hello!

A friend asked me about an off-site backup service called Carbonite
http://www.carbonite.com and I am looking into it. I want to know if anyone
here has experience with it or if anyone knows of another low-cost off-site
backup for home users. Carbonite is $50/year.

Thank you!

Get removable hard drives (I use LaCie "bricks",
which fit neatly in a standard bank deposit box),
at least two. Back up regularly, swap with the one
in the bank often enough for your level of activity.
This gives you a combined on-site and off-site
capability that is easy and fast to use via USB 2.
After the initial investment, another good thing is that
aside from a small piece of the annual box rental
the monthly cost is zero.
