If your PC wasn't network enabled, you wouldn't be able to post here<g>.

Assuming you mean infected by a trojan, then the answer is yes.

If you're running windows on an internet connected pc, you have an automatic
defence for possesion of child porn.

See http://www.zdnet.com.au/newstech/security/story/0,2000048600,20276799,00.htm
and http://www.zdnet.com.au/newstech/security/story/0,2000048600,20276799,00.htm

But I wouldn't make the assumption that other courts/juries would agree.

If you system is compromised, then yes, it would be possible for someone to
basically "own" it. Tracker, you concur?

I mean network enabled when i am offline, that is when i have not dialed up
my ISP

you're certain you're connected to a network even when you haven't
dialed up? what do you base this on?

if true, it sounds like a dialer program of some sort... beyond that, i
don't know...

theres no dialing taking place. i am thinking of network enabled via power
cables.

there's no such thing... i can't imagine where you might have gotten
the idea that the power cables connected you to anything other than the
power grid...

you said you thought your pc was getting "network enabled", so i ask
again - what do you base this on?... what is happening to make you
think your computer is network enabled even when you haven't dialed up
your isp...

there's no such thing

of course there is

and have *you* checked out the details? stick a remote control box
between the appliance's power cord and the power outlet in the wall and
you get to control whether or not those appliances get power... big
whoop... you'll note that there is no networking via power cables going
on in this scenario...

do you see such a device anywhere near the power cord for your
computer? no? guess it's not that then...

are you going to provide the diagnostic information i requested *twice*
now or do you not really want help?

while it's not impossible to send data over a power cable, his
computer is not going to be networked via the power cable without
additional hardware - and he's given no indication that he has any
other networking hardware beyond his conventional modem...

Well, sure. I posted the link mostly tongue-in-cheek. The PC would
need to connect to some kind of router and modem, similar to cable
broadband, and maybe this new-fangled equipment could even use the
house wiring for multiple computers. Maybe next year. <g>

I'll be living within the region mentioned in the fltimes article in
about two years...

well, hopefully your lights won't flicker when you're downloading av
updates...

it's strange, though... i always had the impression that the power
distribution network was much 'noisier' than say the telecommunication
network... i wonder where the benefits of this technology are... i also
wonder about security / privacy of such a setup - would a normal power
grid architecture lend itself to traffic routing?

I too thought the power grid would be noisy. Maybe the broadband
service is in a frequency range too high to be affected. The benefits?
Rural areas outside DSL range and with no cable tv that could supply a
connection. Non-rural? Competition drives down prices.

Who knows? We'll just have to wait and see...

Highly unlikely for several reasons. If you think this is happening,
