Hi,

I have had this card for sometime now without problems running on win98se
and XP pro but recently my pc has suffered random hangs always resulting in
the XP installation being trashed and having to reinstall, win98 also hangs
but recovers when restarted.

Thought it was overheating cpu, memory problem but have now traced it to the
graphics card, if I turn the acceleration to lowest setting every thing is
fine, but unbearably slow. I am not running any games or grahphics
intensive programs when this happens.

Can a graphics card go faulty and exhibit this kind of problem?

BTW it can not be driver related as I have tried the original drivers and
updated drivers on both OS and prior to the fault they had not been changed.

I would appreciate any thoughts as to wether I need a new card or is there
some fix.

Hi,

Is the fan on Your card running?
If Yes: Have You tried the card in another computer?

Just a couple of thoughts, I hope they may somehow help, if not, I most
certainly hope somebody else can help You.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
Rene

I have never heard of a video card trashing windows xp. You sure your hard
drive isn't going bad?

Test run the card in another computer, which preferably has at least
(powerwise) a card of same type previously installed and flawlessly working.
If no-go, then it is probably in the card. If the card runs OK, then check
the PSU. Maybe it is about to reach the end of its lifespan, PSU faults
sometimes show up in funny ways (e.g. strange crashes or non-booting
systems, sound familiar?) The reason why your computer might run OK with
another type of video card is that the other card might draw smaller amount
of power and your (dying) PSU can still deliver enough to keep the other
card and the rest of the system happy.
