Hi, I recently had xp pro and nortan systemworks installed
on my computer, after this my computer has been running
extrememly slowly, i have a 1.1 ghz proccessor and 40 gig
hard drive of which 35 gig is free. I defraged and
removed un needed files. A while ago i was moving a
single music file from cd to my computer and word at the
same time, 90% cpu usage came up followed by one of those
kennel or kernel error messages. I have been told by a
friend that the hard drive is screwed, any idea how to fix
without reformatting my computer

A 1.1 GHz processor is on the slow side for Windows XP. If your computer is
old enough to have that processor it also likely has slow RAM, a slow bus
and a slow video subsystem. Add Norton SystemWorks, which is a huge resource
drain, and you have a recipe for poor performance.

You can help yourself by uninstalling software - like most of NSW - but in
the end your computer won't perform any better than its hardware allows.

.
What a load of crap. I have a box with 1.1 Celeron and
512mb of SDRAM *and* NSW *and* what you ignorantly refer
to as a "slow video subsystem" and XP runs like a charm.
If you don't know the answer, just let it go rather than
top-posting idiotic drivel.
