PC doesnt switch off!

Hey there,

Its been over a week and i cant switch off or restart my computer from the start menu (Turn off computer-->Turn off or Restart). I have to do it manually by pressing the on/off button.Any ideas?

Also the monitor gets blank for a second and then gets normal again. That happens quite frequently.

I had a problem whereby i pressed "Shutdown" and it would do the normal stuff, right until the end where it would BSOD... then restart NOT shutdown.

Reinstall of windows cured it.

It does nothing at all!!It doesnt shut down nor restarts..Only 'stand by' button works. The strange thing is that when i press the button it closes whatever application i have opened (such as MSN messenger,Microsoft office doc, etc) but after that it remains open. With no other solution to use, i turn it off manually..It didnt do it often but since last week it is an everyday habbit.

I try to run the memory test but it asks for a cd?can anyone tell me how to run a memory card as well as a grafics card test?Is a programm called 3D smax or similar?
