PC Doesn't Start

My machine won't start. When I turn on the power I hear the fan
whirring, the lights come on for the CD drives, the HD and power
indicator lights come on while the HD spins up briefly and then
nothing happens. The monitor light blinks indicating it has no signal.

The machine was running fine 3 days ago when my wife used it to burn a
picture CD. I know she didn't install any new hardware or software.

I tried re-seating the video card and CPU assembly. No change.

The motherboard is an old P55TV2 with a Powerleap upgrade chip (I
don't remember which).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Does it beep? A short/long beep sequence will tell you what's wrong. I don't
have the chart handy though, look online. If it does not beep then your
speaker is not plugged in (the tiny one inside the case) or there may be
something wrong with the motherboard. Also, make sure the motherboard is
screwed into the case and grounded, a lot of people take it out of the case
when they are testing it and it just does not work.

Also, just to note that motherboards, CPU, video cards are very inexpensive
now, so you might be better off upgrading if you find your time valuable.
You can take it in to have it fixed, but they will end up charging you
$30/hr, and may never find the problem.
