I have one PC Acer Aspire 1350 and one DV camera Canon MV530i. Everything was
running well and I made wonderful DVD with Windows movie maker and Nero
express.

But now... my PC doesn't recognize anymmore my camera, connected with
IEEE1394 Fire Wire Card (texas instrument). Windows says that "no camera is
connected". It seems like there is no problem with the Fire Wire card,
according to windows. But I didn't change anything, excepting the
installation of Nero express to burn the DVD !

The most curious thing is that windows still recognized my camera, then
blocked. And after that, nothing more. I am desperated because I tried
everything I am able to do ! Please help !

Hello,

Your message seems to contradict itself, or perhaps its just me....
The first parts of paragraphs 2 and 3...

Anyway, whatever. I can tell you that in the past people have had many
problems with firewire cards based on the TI chipset. At least one of those
users confirmed that buying a different card and rebooting was all he needed
to do, and from the conversation it was clear there were others who had done
the same....So.....go get a replacement card....remember to reboot your
computer a few times after removing the TI version before putting the new
card in

Thanks, John.

No contradiction but my english is not so good : the PC first recognized the
camera and then blocked. It is still blocked.

I tried last night to reboot the system... but nothing has changed. I don't
know how to change the fire wire card because with this acer, you can't
remove it.

Thank you for your very quick answer...

Hello,

OK, I understand. Before writing the rest of this I checked my brand
new computer (home built) and discover that it has two firewire cards !!! In
fact there is the one card I fitted and an on-board card...should really
have checked before fitting a second card. The point in telling you this is
that it was my wife who actually plugged in the various cables....and it
seems she has plugged the firewire cable into the on-board controller....the
controller works well, but guess what, its based on the Texas Instruments
Chipset !!!! This is a bit of a mess.

Checking the details of the on-board device and in particular the
Firmware Revision number I found NOTHING !!!! typical. I have checked
everything related to it that I can and there is nothing that will help. The
motherboard though is very new...constructed about two months ago (info on
packaging) and perhaps this controller is working on a chipset that has been
revised (guessing)

Even though the above has muddied the waters here is the procedure
based.......

On the assumption that the on-boards card is not suitable
======================================

Click on STAR > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device
Manager

As its a built in device you should find an entry under "Network
Adapters" that refers to a 1394 Net Adapter Right click it and select
Disable.
The alternative is that it appears as a distinct device in which case
you should find it under the title IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers. Again,
right click the entry and select Disable.

Next turn the machine off and reboot a couple of times. That should sort
out the system.

The next step is to put a firwire card into a spare slot and power the
system. XP will detect the presence of the new card and go into the Found
New Hardware routine. Under normal circumstances this particular routine
will require no further input from you.

Thats it, In a way its a pity I have discovered that some TI chipset
based cards work OK.

BTW. There is no doubt that your English is better than my Italian :)

Hope all that helps a little.

Best Wishes....John Klly
