Greg

I orginally posted this in the WIndows XP Networking
section and got no reply.

Hopefully someone in this section can help.

I am in desperate need of help to this problem which I
have had for around 9 months now and still have not got
to the bottom of it!!

Whenever I am running software that searches the internet
my PC crashes. No blue screen, it just powers off.

I have several programs which do this (one of which is
Zeus the reciprocal link finder). If I do not run these
programs my PC is fine so I have come to the conclusion
that it must be something to do with the multi-threading
or network communications??

I have XP home installed with the latest service pack.

If anyone has had similar experiences or can help I would
really appreciate it.

No it is not the Blaster virus I have checked.

Many thanks.

Greg

Did you notice if a dump file was written? Are dumps enabled? It sounds
like an app or driver is crashing, and for some other reason your system is
powering off instead of rebooting. A dump file has a lot of useful
information which can help isolate the problem.

Hi,

Yes dumps are enabled and no dump file is created there
isn't time the power off is instantaneous but it only
happens when any one of the three programs I use that
search the internet are running. I have been in touch
with each of the software vendors and they have not been
any help.

I am beginning to think it may be a hardware issue.
