A friend recently installed Microsoft spyware on my PC. I
removed it yesterday and now Windows will not launch. I
received errors about missing links in chains, link not
found, etc.. Now the system wants to boot from a CD! Has
anyone else had problems when they removed the spyware?
.
I removed MS spyware several months ago, because the the
software would not scan. I had no problem removing it
using the "Add or Delete Program" feature.
It sounds like that there is a worm or virus on your
system. If you can boot the computer run an anti-virus
software to at least identify the specific problem; and
anything else such as MS malware.
I had a problem similar to the one you had about a year
ago. I ended up reinstalling the original software. It
was a hard lesson. Now, I keep backups of important
files and frequently check for updates of my security
software. Also, I make a set of restore diskettes using
my anti-virus software monthly to boot my computer, if
the computer does not boot itself. There was a recent
computer article highlighting that many serious computer
problems are simply the result of people not updating XP
online.
The minimum security software available free on the
Internet that I use are: (1) "AVG Free" for anti-virus;
(2) "Sypbot Search & Destroy" for spyware; (3) "Ad-Aware
SE" for adware; (4) "SpywareBlaster" for preventing
installation of spyware and ActiveX files; and (5) MS XP
firewall, spyware, and malware software.
I'm sorry that you have this problem. I hope you'll take
precautions given to prevent this from happening again.
Good Luck.
