Was clearing out old papers and I found a old add from 1992. I think
some will find it interesting.

The cheapest system was an 80286@16Mhz with a socket for an 80287. 2
floppies (1,2&1.44MB), 1MB RAM upgradeable to 4 MB on motherboard, 42 MB
hard drive, keyboard, 2serial-1 parallel, video card, mouse and Video
display, Software Spinnaker 8 in 1, & ProList and DOS 5.0..... COST
$1099

The high end system was a 80486 @ 33Mhz, 2 floppies (1,2&1.44MB), 1 MB
RAM upgradeable to 16MB on motherboard, 42 MB hard drive, keyboard,
2serial- 1parallel, video card and Video display, mouse and DOS
5.0..... COST $1935

Happy 4th.

Will "hard drives" be solid state ten
years from now, and have no moving parts?
Compact Flash memory is still expensive at this
for only a 1Gb. To reach for example,the 320Gb
capacity of some newer drives...Sandisk and other
CF card manufacturers would have to redesign
completely manufacturing process. HDDs prices are
very low(except perhaps for SCSI drives) and they will
stay for a long time i think. Optical technology is promising
especially for removable medias like the present DVD-RWs
but access is still needed by means of mechanical operations
wich is not an advantage over HDDs :-(

Just tossed a 1994 IBM 486-66 which was around $5000 in its Day. The chip
itself sold for around a thousand when it first came out.

That's as slow as my Palm handheld if I underclock it with this hack I've
got.
1MB RAM upgradeable to 4 MB on motherboard,

and it's got 8MB ram...

And I got it for just over $200, I think (was a gift)

That's 1MHz faster than it goes at normal speed.
RAM upgradeable to 16MB on motherboard,

That's the size of the smallest flash cards these days.
5.0..... COST $1935

And that's just a little expensive.
Happy 4th.

Happy 5th.

WOW, I WANT A really fast 486 ;) ;)

those sound so mega fast, i might even be able to get Windows 3.1 to run,
but that might be pushing it, but seriously, I have 130 486 DX4 100mhz
Computers with 32mb RAM that I am selling if you want them - anyone?
