Hi

A PC at home will not boot. It continually reboots. Apparently some message
has been coming up for a couple of days about rebuilding registry (or the
like). Now it will only boot in Safe command line mode.

I've tried going back to the "last know working" registry. PC booted ok, but
as soon as I tried to do anything, it would reboot soon after.

Now it won't even boot to "last know working" registry - only Safe command
line mode.

Any clues on this one?

Cheers

Mark,

Well with the extremely informative "some message has been coming up for a
couple days about rebuilding the registry (or the like)" I don't think you
are going to get much help. In the future, take those messages more
seriously and note the exact content of the message then post on a newsgroup
with that information.

Yes I know and would have, but you are assuming I personally viewed them.
Incorrect. I was away at the time. Novus users were not aware of the
importance of this
Oh well

I still need help please

Thanks
Yes, first thing that came to mind

Mark,
Have you ran a virus check recently?
Boot into safe mode and from there, enable your firewall. XP has a built in
basic Firewall (check in
'start', 'help and support' then type in 'enable Internet Connection
Firewall' for a step-by-step guide to setting this up.
If your anti-virus is not up to date, try going into start>run>msconfig and
disabling any unnecessary items there.
If it's a virus , your previous restore points may well be useless now.
You may not be able to get online even if you are able to boot normally
after altering msconfig.
If possible, get a friend to put a copy of something like AVG 6 free
anti-virus on a CD (11 Sept release date) and run that - hopefully the virus
will have been recognised before that date.
Once the virus is identified, you'll be able to use the proper removal
technique.
If this doesn't work, report back with the exact wording of the error
messages you are receiving.
Hope this helps,
Chek

Thanks

I'll give it a go
