Hmm, having just had the discussion about how good this is (or not) I
now discover than a) my license has expired, and b) Digital River (my
local supplier) are unable to ship me the new V11 version ('out of
stock' .. I'm not on broadband, so I ordered physical media).

Trend say 'it's not possible to just extend the expiry date of the
current version' .. clearly a lie, since there are other people still
using the 2003 version I am sure. Colour me not impressed.

I also recall someone once saying that it was possible to get multi-PC
version of this, but I can't find it at the Digital River sales site ..
anyone out there have more details? A two PC license would be 50% less
hassle on the annual update and renewal basis than two separate copies
(the more so since one PC is usually a version behind or ahead of the
other ones).

So .. a decent product, dogged by an incompetent distribution system (at
least in the UK).

Last night I emailed Trend Micro to ask how to get a multi-PC update
for the scan engine (not the pattern file which can be downloaded)
because I have 50+ copies of PC-cillin 2002 that came bundled with
Asus motherboards. My customers who own these machines are scattered
all over town and many of them wouldn't know how to update online, and
it's not practicable for me to do an online update for each of them
individually. And we have only dial-up here too, and download speed
sometimes crawls at less than 0.5 K/sec.

I just got a reply from Trend Micro saying that only online updating
is possible. That's strange because I distinctly remember reading at
their website some time ago something to the effect that one can apply
for offline updating of multiple machines.

Hmmm, doesn't sound so good. Hope their delivery/customer service doesn't
go to pot.

You know, version 11 is distributed in the US at retail outlets like
Fry's Electronics (I've seen it). Are you sure it's not being sold
through larger electronics outlets in the UK?

Possibly, but would I get a 50% reduction as an upgrading customer?
(And I'd still need some intelligent help w.r.t. getting a two-PC
version).

2 answer your 1st question, I think you would. On the boxes I've seen,
there is an offer for competitive upgrades and rebates =$ 20.

As to your 2nd question, given your inability to communicate with the
TrendMicro folks (their problem, not yours) you do have an alternative.
It's not really ethical.

Update, the nice man (Tom Allison) from Trend actually responded to my
plaintive email(s):-

1) Apparently you =can= get multi-PC licences for PC-Cillin, you just
can't get them from Digital-River's website. You have to actually phone
them or similar - I haven't actually tried this yet, since I'd already
ordered the single PC version. For UK customers, the Digital River
contact details:

Telephone: +44 118 934 6150
or 0118 9346150 from inside the UK

2) Tom actually rang me, and offered to send me a CD with PcCillin 2004
(aka 'version 11') and a free 1 year license key. (I haven't got the CD
yet, but I am optimistic!).

So there ya go .. nice product, nice support men, still a shame about
the distribution method, but at least the authors will bail you out,
which is more support than I've had from most of their competitors.
(Then again, maybe Tom reads the NG! 8>.)

Good news to hear!!
