PC Challenges

Greetings!
We are experiencing several challenges with our PC.
Frequently it will hang when opening MS Word, MS Excel, or other similar
programs, and the program will not be able to be closed with Task Manager.
Often the PC will need to be rebooted to unhang and open Word and other
applications. This includes IE 6.
When the PC reboots it forgets many of the opening settings, like certain
applications that are set to access the Internet upon bootup.
There is only one restore point on this PC, and I do not want to go back
there without first doing a backup. That is another challenge - backup does
not seem to work.
This PC has antivirus and firewall, and did not suffer an attack from the
blaster worm.

Dave,

Try disabling Norton AV and see if the problem is resolved. For true
results, disable AV from starting when Windows starts and reboot. Check
results. . .this was the cause of slowdown on several PC's that I service.
