I have been looking at pc cases, went to a local store and they had the
antec p180 and p150 plus some others. One looked exactly like the sonata
II.

Of the cases I saw, the p180 looked nice, big, a lot of features. I am not
really fond of the full length door though.

However, is there some reason why people like black so much when buying
computer equipment?

Same reason they like silver or blue or any other color. At least it's not
boring beige anymore. :) -Dave

.. . . but the leading manufacturers make their cases in black, at Best Buy
(Bait and Switch Buy), they only sell black keyboards.

I read in some reviews that people wanted black. Not only is black boring,
it is the color of depression.

Maybe people hate computers? I'll check the journal of psychology, perhaps
there is an article of how people in this modern age are making a cry for
help, 'Release me from my unhappiness and this damn computer!'.

We have two P180's here at home, a black one and a silver one. I know it
must be an illusion, but my black one somehow seems less intrusive than my
partners silver one.
Can strongly recommend the P180 though, well made, cools well and dead
quiet.

The Antec cases are decent. I don't care my components are black; I
guess that's what's currently in vogue.

It's not a problem unless you need to see something up close.

I think black cases are still selling fairly well on the basis of not being
beige.

The P180 is a fine case if you want something to keep your stuff cool and
quiet.
The whole case has been designed with that in mind.
It's almost a work of art.
However, if like me you like to dive inside the case every now and then to
change something, move it around, or temporarily plug something in (or
anything else you can think of), then it is a total nightmare.
The case is meant to build your pc into it, and then leave it there, no
messing.

The P160 (the big silver cas) on the other hand is great for me.
I can whip the side panel of in about 2 seconds and have quick and easy
access to everything.
It's doesn't have the sound deadening panels and so is not as quiet as the
P180 but I'm used to my PCs sounding like my car at full bore, so thats not
a problem.

No idea about the P150 though.

Cheers!

I had a seagate cheetah like that, drove me nuts. I will get the P180
because it is fantastic in terms of function but the rest of it, full length
door, style, not so crazy about, but, oh well . . .

Don't agree. I don't have the thumbscrews in the side of my P180's, so the
sides come off in a flash.
And I can't really see what's so hard about adding stuff inside (except
maybe changing the PSU). And I muck about inside the box a fair bit.

Don't know as I still seek out normal beige towers. I've always went for
full height (10+ bay) towers, swinging side panels, caster wheels, etc
simply because they are so easy to work with. Plenty of room to do anything
you want.

I'd rather have a good, heavy, conservative case with enough working room
inside to hang clothes than most of these "kewl modz" cases that seem to be
peddled everywhere these days. I don't even find these "H.R. Giger" cases
to be attractive, even with their pretty "kewl rave" lights.

Think I'm even going to start becoming even more practical by
rackmounting...

Now you're talking, Eric! I like big portable panels myself. I want the
****er to hold up to a shotgun blast. All the flashing, invisible,
translucent, iridescent, aerodynamic boxes out there are intended for
either fashion designers or other consumers of assblaster vibrators. Put
them all in a ****ing sack and toss them in the river. Give me hammered
titanium or nothing at all.
