HI everyone!

ive just received all my gear that ive ordered off ebuyer.com heres
the specs

- PCChips M848ALU system main board
- Maxtor Fireball 20gb
- 512MB DDR SDRAM 333MHz
- Voodo 5 GFx Card
- AMD Duron 1400
- ATX Case with 300w PSU

Heres the problem -

When i installed the main board and components the jumpers were set
incorectly and the pc wouldnt start. ok ive sorted that problem out
now and it starts up with fans spinning. My Hdd is connected to the
Primary IDE controller but it doesnt spin up. The hard drive isnt
faulty as it spins up with no data cable attached. ive swapped the
data cables with new ones and other ones ive had spare from other
builds.

If anyone knows what the problem is here then id be so greatful! im
getting more fustrated as the day goes on!

Thanks

I don't have your answer, except that PCChips motherboards are pretty much
the bottom of the barrel for quality. If you were doing a budget build, why
didn't you look at something from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or some other
reliable brand? Fifty dollars wouldn't make or break a PC budget and you
can get very nice loaded Athlon boards for less than $80 from one of the
first tier brands. At the very least, you could have looked at Asrock or
Albatron. You probably would have fewer build problems as a result.

Good heavens ! You really have gone for 'cheap', haven't you ?
First things first:
Double check ALL connections, jumpers and switches with the manuals.
Does the system run through POST (power on self test) and produce any
bleeps ?
Is the HDD being detected correctly in the BIOS ?
Have you tried the BIOS 'Load defaults' option ?
Post back with some answers and we'll take it from there !
Kevin.
