Hi there.
hmmm...this is the first case I have seen this but I wanna
give it a shot....
Firstly, what did u install/uninstall before last Friday?
Secondly, have you tried updating Windows and drivers?
(just for safety....)
I would also like to know what happens if you use the last
known good config at startup when pressing F8? Does the
error happen again?
I want to know, if you have another machine and the SAME
chipset, can u take out the HDD and put it in that machine
and see if the error occurs?
If not, can you take out EACH PCI card and leave in the
graphics card alone and disconnect CDRW/DVD R/Zip drive
and see if the error occurs? Then slowly, ONE BY ONE
insert each card/drive and see if errors occur, if it
does, then check that card and see what happens.
If all else fails, please see if you can repair Windows
2000 using setup and if that fails, there may be a faulty
MB...but could be unlikely.
Can you see if you can update the BIOS? Well - it's not
needed since it is a HARDWARE error of some sort.
The CPU (or CPU Cache) COULD be faulty but also try this:
Can you disable PCI Bus mastering in your machine? What
happens?
Please let us know what happens, thank-you

Since last Friday, my Windows 2000 Professional PC has
frequently restarted without any user request. When I
look at the Event Viewer, a sample event is shown below:
========================================
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 6/29/2003
Time: 4:02:45 PM
User: N/A
Computer: CS343437-A
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck
was: 0x0000009c (0x00000000, 0x1f6b3e40, 0xcc0000ff,
0x20040189). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was
saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini062903-09.dmp.
========================================
Please note that the 2nd parameter changed each time when
the system reboots. The other three parameters and the
stop code always remain the same.
When I run the OS in a Debug Mode upon automatic reboot,
the blue screen stayed and showed:
========================================
*** STOP: 0x0000009C (0x00000000, 0x########, 0xCC0000FF,
0x20040189)
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
Beginning dump of physical memory

administrator or technical support group.
========================================
I have referred to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
162363, and it does talk about the Stop Code 0x0000009C
and machine check exception (Interrupt 18). However, this
article and even "Intel Pentium Pro Family Developer's
Manual - Volume 3: Operating System Writer's Manual" do
not specify the exact meaning of that stop code and its
parameters.
First, I went to "Control Panel -> System -> Advanced Tab -the "Automatically Reboot" option. I have also changedStartup and Recovery button" to uncheck
the power supply from 300W to 350W, and replaced a 512MB
memory chip with two 256MB memory chips. These actions,
unfortunately, have not stopped the machine check and
automatic reboot.
Could anyone tell me the meanings of the followings:
Stop code = 0x0000009c
1st parameter = 0x00000000
3rd parameter = 0xCC0000FF
4th parameter = 0x20040189
And, how to tackle this problem?
Thanks in advance.
