PC 3200 Memory Question

Hello,

I have a Biostar M7NCD motherboard. It has 2 memory slots with
256 megs PC2700. I just bought 1 stick 512 Megs PC2700 from NewEgg and
they sent me PC3200 instead (not to happy). Should I send it back or
can I adjust via the BIOS for the 3200 to run as 2700 (or again just
send it back)? I know my way around the BIOS but have never
overclocked anything nor adjusted voltages. Any help would be
appreciated.

You're better off with PC3200, it's backwards compatible.
You should not need to set the bios any differently, just
pretend you have a PC2700 module in your hands and proceed
accordingly. The bios does not set based on memory PC(nnnn)
speed, it sets based on the FSB and percentage off of that
(for nForce2), based on the CPU installed.

FWIW, I have a similar Biostar board and found that even
with CAS3 memory, it was more stable set to CAS2.5... for
whatever that's worth. Test the resulting config with
memtest86 for several hours prior to booting the OS.

Thanks Kony,

I will use it (PC3200) in bank 1 and put 1 stick of the 256
PC2700 in the 2nd bank. Thanks for your help. I'll also run the
memtest86.
