I have WMM2. When I cut from one scene to the next, the second scene pauses for a fraction of a second before continuing. Even when I render the video, it is still there. How do I get rid of this annoying thing?

I have had that happen occasionally. In my case I believe
it was caused by a function in the camcorder rather than
in MM2, as the pause was visible on the clip in the
Collection i.e. in the unprocessed footage before I had
put it on the timeline. I got rid of it by nibbling just
a tiny bit off the front of the affected clips. As you
say, it is only a fraction of a second so you don't
really lose anything valuable by doing this. But it's a
bit of a pain to have to do it - is it on every clip??
I have various effects and transitions on-board in the
camcorder and believe it happened when I was
experimenting with those (I don't ever bother with them
now, always wait to do the editing in MM2). I have never
experienced the problem again since I stopped using the
fade and dissolve and other twiddly bits in the camera.
This may not have been the cause for you, in which case

It's hard to say without actually looking at and playing with some of the
footage, but my experience is the same as yours.
I'm working on some vacation footage taken with my new digital camcorder,
see the same thing and resolve it the same way you are doing... just
nibbling a bit on the clips as needed.
The reasons might vary with the camcorder and capture process.... wish I
knew more.
