HEllo, my wife receives a powerpoint 2007 presentation from her teacher. It
has a sound icon. When she clicks the sound icon it does pause but when when
she clicks it again, it starts back from the beginning. Is there anyway we
can alter this presentation to add a pause button or change something to
allow this sound icon to pause and resume from that point instead of
returning to the beginning? Thanks.

Robert

You can add a pause sound action and set it as a trigger animation.

To add the pause, select the sound icon, then go to Animations tab and click
Custom Animation to open the Animation Pane. In the pane, click Add Effect |
Sound Actions | Pause. This will create a pause action in the pane that
starts on mouse click. Problem is, that's a random mouse click. You want it
to start *when you click the sound icon specifically*.

For that, you need a trigger animation. Here are instrux how to create a
trigger: http://www.echosvoice.com/triggers.htm

You'll want the trigger animation to "start effect on click of <sound
name>."

Mr Echo. I did what you suggested but didn't have much success. I think I set
everything right and when I click the sound icon it will pause but when i
click the icon again it starts from the beginning of the teachers narration
and not where I paused her. Is this normal or am I still not doing something
right? Thanks.

As "Mr" Echo said (she's not a Mr BTW) you can set a pause trigger.

However Linked and Embedded sounds act differently. Linked sounds usually
restart where you paused and embedded sounds normally start over. You may be
able to save as html to recover the sound file and then delete the original
and reinsert as a linked file.

Ah, interesting -- I didn't realize there might be different behavior
between linked and embedded sounds. (Hadn't had a chance yet to test it here
to see what the problem might be.)

John, I don't know PPT that well but I did open this file and changed a word
so that I could "save as" and got the drop down menu. I did not see html but
did see "web page". I saved this presentation as a "webpage". I then opened
this new file and saw nothing but files, however, in doing this I saw the
sound files. I tried inserting the proper sound file with the proper slide
but when I inserted from file and went to my "webpage" file when i inserted
it it still acted the same way. That is no pause, only a stop and restart.
What I did do however and it worked but was a long process. I deleted the
sound icon in the orginal file and dropped and dragged the appropriate sound
file from the "webpage" file into the corresponding slide. Now at least when
I click the realplayer icon, realPlayer opens up for the sound and we can
pause it that way. I am sure there is a better way to do this but I am
unaware of how to properly do it. All this said, we are now able to pause the
sound on the slide show so she can proceed to read the corresponding material
and then resume. I thank you for your help in better understanding all this.
I really appreciate it.

And when you re-inserted the sound did you make sure it was linked?

To check select the sound icon >Sound Tools and use the drop down menu Sound
Options

Does it say "Contained in File"(embedded) or is there a path (linked)

John, I don''t see anything that would state "linked" or "embedded". On the
original one that I tried just deleting the sounds and reinserting them, when
I click the sound icon there is nothing that would state what you are asking.
The only thing I see is stuff like: start when clicked or automatcially.
There is no "drop down" menu on the sound Options tab.
