Pause After Clicking Folder in Windows Explorer (XP)

I've seen many posts, but no solutions to this issue. It's now
obvious to me that it is a common Windows XP issue, but I'm going to
give it one last shot because it's driving me freakin' crazy.


In Windows Explorer (XP), I click on the drive I want to access.
(Let's call it "D:") After clicking on the D: drive icon, it brings
up my folder list. But then, when I double click on one of the
folders, it takes between 8 to 12 long seconds for it to respond.

Why is this and is there a way to solve it?

A column in PC Mag made a joke about this a long time ago. Opening a folder
is a difficult task for Windows. Comparison was made to a Mac where when you
click a folder it opens right away. How unusual! No solutions were given.

Oops. Sorry. Previous reply was for slow right click menu. Not at all what
you asked for.

Suggestions for slow folders:
-Turn off thumbnails
-Check for invalid shortcuts
-Check for .avi files and move them to their own folder
-In folder options>View, remove check from item that checks for network
resources
-Search the MS Knowledge Base for "explorer slow" and you'll get several
articles. The resulting list of articles include references for updates,
hotfixes and registry edits that might help.

Sharon,
I appreciate your suggestions, and I've tried all of them--
unfortunately to no avail.

It seems that many I talk to have this problem. There is a
'hesitation' when clicking on a folder after initially opening the
drive in explorer. I hope they've solved this in Vista.
