The blue screen appears at the Windows XP HE greeting
screen. I can't get to my desktop or an explorer. Can I
do this from dos mode? If so how do I get there from the
initial screen. A F-key maybe?

Hey Brandie,
Were you running sfc when this occurred ?
Have you installed service pack 1, an updated version of
this file was
included in sp1.
If not, then do so, and it should fix the problem.
If you have installed sp1, then a copy of this file
should be in
\windows\servicepackfiles\i386
Go into \windows\system32\dllcache and rename the
sfcfiles.dl to
sfcfiles.bak
Now go into \windows\system32 and do the same thing.
Now windows file protection should kick in, it can't
replace the file from
the dllcache folder because you renamed it, so it should
look to the
servicepackfiles folder, if you didnt have sp1 installed,
it would prompt
for the installation cd.
