Hyderabad - A multilingual database for the Vedas, on the
lines of encyclopaedia developed by R.V.S.S. Avadhanulu,
Deputy Director of the Nizam's Institute of Medical
Sciences (NIMS), has been awarded a patent by the
Government.
The database includes the text of Vedic mantras with
'svara' symbols, meanings of the mantras in English and
also in other Indian languages like Hindu and Telugu. The
graphics component, incorporated in the system,
facilitates easy understanding of the concept of the
Vedic texts, Dr. Avadhanulu said in a press release here
on Saturday.
The database, Dr. Avadhanulu said, was designed to
contain the mode of chanting for each mantra.
The modes include 'mala', 'shikha', 'rekha', 'dhwaja',
'danda' and 'ratha'synchronised with the display of text
files. The list of parameters includes identification
code of the mantra, the Vedic branch to which it belongs,
name of sage who penned the mantra, the deity, 'chandas'
(meter) and figures of speech.
