Hi and Good afternoon.
Issue: Virus or other variants:
1. In which way the installation of patches on Windows NT
4.0 or 2000 may impact a software application running
under a Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 plataform?

I work for a pharmaceutical and as per Good Manufacturing
practices (GMP's)the computers attached to laboratory
instruments , must be qualified, due to any change
executed on the operating system. This is performed to
challenge if the patches do not affect/impact the software
application functionality.

However, new virus arrive frecuently which may impact our
system. This willrequired patches installation. As a
result qualification (validation) of our system must be in
a frecuntly validation status due to new patches.

Therefore, is there any Microsoft public statement or
information , that may details that the Micrsoft patches
does not impact the software applications? running under
the Windows 4.0 or 2000 plataform.

Note: Also, for you information, the software application
is validated only for Microsoft Service pack only , not
on every Microsoft patch, it comes out.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Regards,

Because there are literally millions of software
applications out on the market today, not every single one
can be tested to assure compliance. While most patches
don't affect system performance, some may cause problem or
other system malfunctions. Administrators are always
cautioned that installing patches can be a hazardous
activity and to always have a backup ready is needed or be
prepared to rollback to a safe system state.
