I was told by ATI tech. support that WinXP had issues with HyperThreading.
That is why my TV card keeps locking up. He said if I called Microsoft, they
would give me the patch that they have to
correct these issues or I would have to disable it. I would rather have the
patch. I'm sure some of you MVP's could get it for me. I would sure
appreciate it. I don't want to have to call them. Please let me know if
anyone has it or can get it. Why wouldn't they just put in Windows Update?
Thanks,

Some fixes aren't tested. For these you have to call and ask. So people like you don't install it without reason.

Well that's certainly passing the buck! To my knowledge, there
are no known issues with Windows XP and Hyper-Threading.
If you have the latest ATI drivers installed, and still have a problem
with your video card locking up, I would tend to believe the video
card itself is possibly defective.

It may sound like passing the buck but it wasn't. I did disable
HyperThreading and now the card works fine. They weren't the first persons
that told me that XP had a problem with HyperThreading.
I didn't buy this processor to have to disable part of it's technology.

Typing Hyperthreading in help (while online) brings up two issues. One is about programs making faulty assumptions and the other (which a patch is available) leaves a folder behind.

If there is such an issue (which there isn't as I'm running a 9800 Pro AIW
just fine on a 3.2GHz HT) there can be only one reason you don't wish to
call MS - and that's because your conscience is less than squeaky and you're
scared you'll be found out...

Buy a legal copy and you won't have any problems...

Thanks a lot, Carey, that file fixed the problem for me, too. Just in case anyone else has the same problem, I'm using an ATI TV Wonder PCI card and I was getting the same thing: everything would work fine for a while, and then the TV would just freeze. It also froze immediately whenever I tried to record anything
Thanks again
James
