What is the easiest way to paste text from Word into PowerPoint? Whenever I
paste into a text box it automatically adds a paragraphi indent which I can
remove.

Instead of Paste, try Paste Special (also in the Edit menu) and choose
Unformatted text.

Yes, this is the default behavior for bulleted text from the on-slide shapes
or notes section when pasted into Word. If you remove the bullets in
PowerPoint prior to the C&P, Word behaves a you would expect. It is
frustrating, I know, but at least it is consistent.
