When I try to paste something into my Word document, which is several pages, it pastes to the previous page instead of where my cursor is

Please clarify the term "something". Text and graphics,
for instance, could behave differently from each other.
Quite a number of factors could be involved in the
difficulty you mention. For instance, if you place the
cursor in front of a paragraph that is formatted
with "Keep Lines Together", then paste a relatively short
paragraph that can fit onto the preceding page, that's
where it will go. Press Ctrl + Shift + * to see paragraph
marks, page and section breaks, and other formatting
marks. These might give you some information about what
is going on when you try to paste.

Best suggestion is to reveal the formatting marks with
Ctrl + Shift + *. If you see a sort of block to the left
of a paragraph, it is probably some sort of special
paragraph formatting. Click Format > Paragraph > Line and
page breaks to change this. Also, keep a look out for
line breaks and page breaks, which will show up with
formatting marks revealed. If you want the inserted
paragraph to stay together on one page, at Format >
Paragraph > Line and Page Breaks you could try Keep Lines
Together, Keep With Next, and Page Break Before (in that
order, and I tend to use only one of those choices, so if
Keep Lines Together doesn't do the trick, clear the check
box and try Keep Wtih Next). This is what occurs to me at
the moment, but I'm sure there are other possibilities
that I have not yet considered.
