Most MS Office products don't handle pictures very well. As far as I know,
there's no way to control the file size growth other than to not use
pictures.
Someone else has posted that a possible solution is to use the control
toolbox to creating a picture control, then paste the picture into the
picture control instead of into the spreadsheet, but I've never tried it.
