Past calendar dates losing their bolding

I know that the calendar has the current month, previous month and up to 10
months in the future to have the dates bolded if there are appointments
there, but I have several clients who want more dates in the past - at least
a year - to be bolded.
Any way to do this?

The person who is requesting this says that they have been able to do this
in the past, and frankly it would be an extremely beneficial feature for
many of our users. There is no registry hack, or anything to modify this?
