Hi -

One page of our website is available only to certain people who are given a
user name and password. I'm not sure what happened, but now whenever anyone
tries to access the website, they are asked for a user name and password and
are then denied access because they don't have this information. Any ideas
how this happened and how I can fix it.

Thanks,

How/Who set up the password protection?
Have you contacted your host regarding this problem?

Someone in our office set up the password protection. I have just been
adding new people to it.

We go to the page that is password protected, click Tools, Security,
Permissions. We have to add the new person with all rights (administer,
access, and browse) and then edit their entry to "Browse Only". It won't let
us add as "Browse Only" in one step.

I contacted Verio and they said it is a Frontpage problem.

Thanks for your help.

Tools->Security->Permissions is for protecting entire webs or subwebs,
not individual pages.

It sounds like you have secured the entire web.

To secure an individual page, place it in a subweb and secure the
subweb.

Password Protect Part of a Web: (Requires FrontPage extensions on
server, and host must support subwebs with unique permissions)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825451 (FP2003)

Protect individual pages: (Requires Windows Server with support for ASP
and Access database)

A similar technique using PHP and mySQL can be used for individual
pages.
