Passwords sometimes required, sometimes not

I'm using OL 2003. I use 2 POP accounts. This setup has been working perfectly for months, and I made no changes to the mail accounts

For the past few days, OL sometimes uses the saved passwords to retrieve and send messages without asking for a password. But sometimes, a dialog box pops up asking for a password. I can see no pattern to whether it does or doesn't ask. Whenever I enter a password, I tell it to remember it

I tried the procedure a

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q26467

but it didn't fix the problem

TIA for any help you can give.

When you enter the password do you receive new e-mail? Note that Outlook
also prompts you for a password when it cannot connect to the mailserver.

Thanks for the reply. You know, for the past couple of days the problem hasn't appeared, and I have made no changes to try to fix the problem. I think my ISP (OptimumOnLine from Cablevision) may have been the cause, and maybe now they've fixed it.

Sorry for the false alarm (if that's what it was--I'll know in a couple more days) and thanks again for your reply

You're welcome! I hope your ISP is done with the maintenance! :-)
