Hi - I'm going to be installing Win 2000 Pro in a white box I'm having
assembled. It will be a one user, un-networked machine, in the work group
sense. (It will also exist in a dual-booted configuration with Xandros).
On my current Win 98SE machine, rather than log in with a Windows password,
I log in before the Windows boot sequence begins, and I'd like to do that on
the new box as well. With this as the gatekeeper, I'd like to log in as
Administrator without a password so that I can install programs,
troubleshoot, etc.
Apart from the fact that I'm quite experienced in hacking '98 and used 2000
Pro at work for a long time I confess I'm not that knowledgeable about
working on this system. My assumption is that the Administrator can
designate to the end user (same person in this case) the ability to do
certain things, and if if he can designate with no limits, then perhaps I
could log in just as the end user and get things done that way. I mention
this because a quick Google search seemed to suggest that the end user can
be configured to skip the Windows login. If so, that's another possibility.
Thanks in advance,
Roger
