Have you ever forgot what your Administrator password was, or maybe XP
was installed by a Tech that put a password on it and now you can't get
ahold of them anymore? And XP Support said that they could only help you
reinstall a new copy of XP. That means you'll lose all your work, and
you have a mid term paper due tomorrow. Should you fail because XP
Support will not help you?

Well here is a way to get by any password (Administrator, user) and still
leaving your system as it was. Well without the old password anyway.

All you have to do is use a XP CD and boot from it (you may have to go
into the BIOS and set the CD
to boot first, if you can not, just download and make the 6 boot
floppies)and then "Hit Enter to Install" when it comes up, then F8 (to
agree), and
then you will see another repair option, do the repair option only. Let
it
go, and when it starts the first reboot, and you see the screen where it
says all new great things about XP.
Then hit "Shift + F10" and a
command prompt will show up in a DOS type window. Then type. " net user
administrator * " it
will then prompt you for a new password, put 123 and then ENTER and then
again. Well you could enter any new password, but I find the 123 easy to
remember, and then after everything, you can change it to something you
like.

Just leave the repair go, and let it finish the repair install (it will
still ask you for the key, and normal stuff like network settings, don't
worry, it will still have all the same settings as you left it, you will
have to thou, reinstall SP1. But that is better then reinstalling XP and
SP1 and setting all your work back to zero),
and when you are finished (it will end at the Welcome screen with all
the user(s) that has/have passwords on them), just reboot the computer
and hit F8 as it is starting again and boot into safe
mode and log in as Administrator with your new password. Then from there
go to Start > Control Panel> User Profile> and click on the user and
remove the password (you can also add a new one to the user).
Then Restart the computer and there you have it. NO
MORE PASSWORD on your user.

The computer will be as it was when it still had the password (all your
email, and paper work). No need to format and reinstall just because you
forgot your password.

While a repair Installation is a valid repair option for this, there
are others less severe, quicker and easier that should be tried first.
Your suggestion is almost the last resort.

There's a issue with admin passwords on preinstalled computers for the
recovery console. There are programs that reset the passwords. That's
two ways.

Did I say anything about a Recovery Console? I am talking about the system.
You can not change a password in RC anyway.

WOW you know how to use google, good for you. Oh I see "Password Reset
Disk" which not ever one does and I hope you floppy isn't flaky. What do
you do then?

This link has to do with a password that is right (the user knows) but the
Sysprep when using Recovery Console is not reading it right. What does this
have to do with changing a password that you have no idea what it is on the
XP computer, and you are unable to log in.

Even after getting into RC, you will not be able to change the password
from there. So what does this have to do with what I posted?

I'm not an MVP but am an ex one. Guess that shows we all know more
than you.

You were saying..... Guess this shows us why you are an EX MVP.

Well take link ****in three on that google page. It was you babbling about preinstalled XP and password so I'd thought I'd include it as you seem full of yourself so it's hard to work out your problem. Suggest you read this before posting here again. and see extract below next para.

I wasn't going to refine the search to knock off the first two hits. I just thought you may have a clue, guess I was wrong again. There are 50 million password reset programs. Some free and some you pay for. Some work 100% and some work 80%. As I'm not stupid enough to ever find myself in your situation (you only have one admin account? How bizarre - should be at least two and I always have three - one with same password as the user name) I tend to use the GUI to reset passwords. But I've played with them. I also have a program that extracts the password but it only works 80% of the time.

From
Describe the problem's symptoms, not your guesses
It's not useful to tell hackers what you think is causing your problem. (If your diagnostic theories were such hot stuff, would you be consulting others for help?) So, make sure you're telling them the raw symptoms of what goes wrong, rather than your interpretations and theories. Let them do the interpretation and diagnosis.

Stupid:
I'm getting back-to-back SIG11 errors on kernel compiles, and suspect a hairline crack on one of the motherboard traces. What's the best way to check for those?

Smart:
My home-built K6/233 on an FIC-PA2007 motherboard (VIA Apollo VP2 chipset) with 256MB Corsair PC133 SDRAM starts getting frequent SIG11 errors about 20 minutes after power-on during the course of kernel compiles, but never in the first 20 minutes. Rebooting doesn't restart the clock, but powering down overnight does. Swapping out all RAM didn't help. The relevant part of a typical compile session log follows.

Really, and what one resets ADMIN and User Passwords on XP (home or Pro)
without being installed?
You say there are 50 million password reset programs, well show me one
that resets the Admin Password without being installed on the computer.
And don't try and say the "Password Reset Disk" that you need to set up
in XP. Because what happens if you don't make one, or it just does not
work?
You say 50 million, so I guess you will have no problem finding
something else.
Some work 100% and some work 80%. As I'm not stupid enough to ever
find myself in your situation (you only have one admin account?

So anyone that has forgot their Admin password or maybe some other
reason they are unable to log into their computer (XP) as USER and
Admin, then they are stupid in your eyes.
Guess the old lady or man that forgot their passwords are just stupid to
you. Nice of you to let us know.........
How
bizarre - should be at least two and I always have three - one with
same password as the user name) I tend to use the GUI to reset
passwords.

Good for you. Same password as the user...LOL....bet you use the same
password for all your banking and internet stuff also.
Crack one password with you, and it unlocks your whole world.
In your words..."How bizarre".
But I've played with them. I also have a program that
extracts the password but it only works 80% of the time.

Lets see you use it without being able to log in, and install it on the
computer.
Your script kiddy wares mean nothing when you can not log in, and run
the software from the desktop. So why do you bring this up as if it is
the same as what I was talking about in my post.

Arsewipe. You can listen to me and log in to your computer. Or you can argue and not login. The choice is entirely yours. If you want to research it you'll find your false objections are all bullshit, The product of a lazy person. I'm not going to type an essay when you are wilfully ignorant. As you are a lazy, malformed personality, evil wanker I suggest you go to the alt groups which are filled with scum like you. Pissoff.

I just can't get my head around someone who knows nothing arguing with an expert. You must like being humilated.

Arsewipe.

This how you talk to everyone who asks you a question?
You can listen to me and log in to your computer. Or you can
argue and not login.

I have no idea what your talking about... I am logged into my computer.
Did you even read my first post? Do you even kknow what is happening
here?
The choice is entirely yours. If you want to
research it you'll find your false objections are all bullshit, The
product of a lazy person.

Again with the names. I am not lazy, I just wanted you to back up your
words. Why should I back up your words about something, when I just
asked for ONE thing from you.
I'm not going to type an essay when you are
wilfully ignorant.

I did not ask for a ESSAY. And I am not ignorant as you so kindly call
me, all I wanted you to do is show me these so called easier then my
steps option. You said you had software (50 million) and I asked for
one. That is all.
Show me how your software can change the Admin Password without being
logged into the computer?
As you are a lazy, malformed personality, evil
wanker I suggest you go to the alt groups which are filled with scum
like you. Pissoff.

Is this your group?
I will not piss off, if you can not handle a question from someone, it
does not give you the right to call them names. It only makes you look
bad you know.
How am I evil in wanting you to show me something, did I attack you, or
call you names? Did I treat you like you are treating me? I think not.

Reason being, I am an adult.

I just can't get my head around someone who knows nothing arguing with

You are calling yourself an expert, that is the funniest thing I heard yet.
I ask you to show me something to back up your words and you fly off the
handle, I don't think I am the one being humilated, you are doing a fine
job of that to yourself.

You have no idea who I am, and you say that I know nothing.
Tell me, by what standard do you judge people to know things and to not
know things?

You being an expert you must work or have worked for MS.
Am I right or wrong? I know that I worked for them (XP Project, then on
the Broadband Project), but I would never be such an ass as to go around
calling myself an expert to make myself look better than someone else.

You seem to be bothered by me asking you to back up what you said. So to
stop you from getting any more upset, I will just take back my question,
seeing that it is a problem for you, and I would hate for you to make
yourself look any more crazy then what you have been showing me.

I gave you the links Mr Malformed Personality. You show a lack of understanding. Remember - ME EXPERT, You goose. So piss off. Your first post was misleading and may have led people into a unnecessary install. But they'll read this and won't waste their time following yours.

Here's a non free one http://www.wininternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/index.asp
http://www.wininternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/locksmith.asp
http://www.wininternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/erdcommander2002.asp

Do your own searching in future dickwad. Now will you piss off to the alt groups.

This, in part, is your reply to another expert.

Because you can not, and you saying this is the last resort, only tells me
that you have no idea what your talking about.

You dickwad, have no idea what you are talking about and are too stupid to click supplied links. I have already supplied all relevent info to you but you are far to stupid to understand. Now PISS OFF.

You are now giving details that you did not give before.
You state "...you have no idea what your talking about"
Actually what is true is that you only stated a fraction of the
pertinent facts.

Many people state they forgot their Administrator password.
They often have no idea the default Administrator exists.
Since there are often Administrator profiles in addition, many will
see your idea and not realize they have an easier fix.
There are other options as well.

However this thread is pointless.
You apparently think you know it all and anyone else is ignorant.

The insults you so quickly pass around seem to actually apply to you.
Next time you wish to play a silly game, get ALL your facts straight
in advance.
Changing the details and then claiming "...you have no idea what your
talking about" goes a long way to showing you a fool.
Do not bother to respond unless you wish to see your own post in
print.

I gave you the links Mr Malformed Personality. You show a lack of
understanding.
Remember - ME EXPERT, You goose. So piss off.

Again, you show that all you are is a child and have not learned to talk
anyone yet. Only thing I seen you an expert on is lack of understanding
in how one treats another person. Maybe if you learned how to talk to
someone without flying off your handle and not being able to deal with
things like a normal person, then maybe a person might listen to you.
When you are just a LAME JACK ASS like you are, and unable to handle
things, people don't see any point to your information; Other then you
are a JACK ASS (not an EXPERT)
Your
first post was misleading and may have led people into a unnecessary
install. But they'll read this and won't waste their time following
yours.

How is mine a watse of time, YOU are unable to login to you computer
with Admin or a USER, and all they get is the Welcome screen. How do you
plan on getting by that. (well you could fork out $199.00 for yours)

Nice app. if you have the money ($199.USD)to buy it and if you want to
brute force the passwords (guess with your password it would crack it in
3 seconds), but why buy it and brute force it when you can follow my
easy steps when it only comes to password. But your an expert (not) so
you would need the GUI and all the other options to do something.
Do your own searching in future dickwad. Now will you piss off to the
alt groups.

Again you show your LAME ways, and how you are unable to deal with
things.
I did not need to do the searching on Google, I am able to do this stuff
without a GUI and also I am not a fool to fork out large amounts of
money for something I can do for FREE and faster then brute force.

This is not your group, and I will post anywhere I feel like, if you
like it or not. (just like you enjoy to post/read at alt.sex.animal)

The insults you so quickly pass around seem to actually apply to you.

Insults ???
All I see is children calling themselves so called "Experts" calling
other people dickwads and such.
You said what I posted was a last resort to fixing the problem, and that
there is a easier faster way to fix it.
If there is a easier and faster way that would make my option a LAST
RESORT, then show it (you did not). But you misunderstood my post and if
I insulted you by saying you did not know what you were talking about,
well I talk that back and I will change it to, you misunderstood what my
post is about, and needed it dumbed down for you.
Next time you wish to play a silly game, get ALL your facts straight
in advance.

What silly game is that? When is posting here a silly game? The
information was to help people, it was about XP.... tell me how this is
a silly game. What I would call silly is how your experts here are not
able to handle things, and fly off the handle and call people all kinds
of nasty things.

Changing the details and then claiming "...you have no idea what your
talking about" goes a long way to showing you a fool.

Sorry to tell you I am not a fool, and I did not chqange the details
(show me where i changed the details), just because you thought it had
to do with something like just a repair install, and misunderstood all
of the post is not me changing the details. Show me where I changed
anything, I might of explained my post more (in my reply to you), so you
would be able to understand it.
Guess you could say, "dumbing it down" for you.
Do not bother to respond unless you wish to see your own post in
print.

Oh, ok again I find another child... Are all the MS experts here as LAME
as yourself or is this just a personal thing with you?

I am not rude you are. This is what YOU said before, I got involved in a thread, to someone trying to help nyou.

Because you can not, and you saying this is the last resort, only tells me
that you have no idea what your talking about.

I reply politely giving proof to instruct you.

You then decided to abuse me. Refused to read the proof. And still does. Youur lastest statements are all lies. You give a 40 minute procedure to replace a 2 minute one. But you keep saying the two minute procedure doesn't work but you refuse to read anything on it. The brute force approach takes only 3 seconds. Why open youir mouth when you are not just ignorant but wilfully ignorant. Did you get a computer for your birthday this year. Wait till

a/ learn how be polite to people when they don't fall down in amazement at your "brilliance" when you give misleading advice.

b/ learn how to be polite to people like me who see you know little and provides links explaining so you don't make a fool of yourself in public

c/ learn to look at the evidence before disputing it. I mean we know you can read (or are you using voice features to type / read the messages). I told you (but you keep lying about it) that there are plenty of free password reset programs based on the GNU license. Linux is free and a lot of password reset programs use a linux bootable floppy.

LOL.... Now you are just a moron.
You then decided to abuse me. Refused to read the proof. And still

If it takes you 40 min.'s to do a repair install, time for you to
upgrade. Takes me 15 min.s at the least.
And you can brute force a password (good one) in two minutes... LOL man
you are high on yourself... You got to be the biggest moron I seen on
these Newsgroups.

But you keep saying the two

The brute force approach takes only 3 seconds. Why open youir mouth

LOL... You have no idea what your taking about. It might take 3 seconds
if you put no password in it. You are making yourself look more like a
moron.
Try a real password and then get back to me on how long it takes.

Wait till

a/ learn how be polite to people when they don't fall down in

Never gave misleading advice, maybe if you learned to understand stuff
you read, you might be able to understand that.
b/ learn how to be polite to people like me who see you know little

I never made a fool out of myself, and at least I am not a moron who can

just don't get it.

you don't know.... and make shit up as you go on.

Again you love to go on... you are not an EXPERT, well maybe at being a
moron, that is about it.
