Is there a way to set my computer up with a pass word
that would prohibit use or access of my computer as a
whole without first entering the appropriate pass word.
I am a novice, so please use simple instructions for a
simple mind. Thank You

When you first boot up your computer, watch the screen and it will tell you which key to press to go into your BIOS.
Scroll through the menu's to find - Password control.
Enter your password.
Exit and reboot.

This may not be the one you want, as it controls the BIOS settings.

As mentioned in this thread, the only way to do it would be to set a
password in your BIOS. However, if you forget the password, the only way
around it is to pull the CMOS battery and leave it uninstalled for several
minutes. This wipes the BIOS, the password along with it and you need to
reset the BIOS to at the very least factory defaults which may not be the
settings you currently have. Of course, you could go into the BIOS as
described in how to set such a password, go to all the verious sections and
make note of all your current settings.

But, why would you want to do this since you essentially accomplish the same
thing with a user password for your user account? If you are the only user,
this should be more than adequate. There are also third party solutions
such as locking the computer and/or various biometric ID solutions such as
fingerprint identification.

Open Control Panel, open User Accounts, click "Create a new account" and
follow the prompts.
