If you loaded XP from a retail CD and did not setup additional user
accounts during setup, you would have been asked to create a password for
the default account named Administrator before setup would go any further.
This password is case sensitive.

If you created user accounts during setup - you are allowed to create
passwords later. If this option was chosen, passwords are initially blank.
Nothing needs to be entered into the password field. With most OEM CDs the
initial passwords are also blank.

You should be able to log on by clicking or typing a user name (not case
sensitive) and leaving the the password field blank.

Bogey, same problem or slightly different? On a preinstalled XP the
password is blank. When using the manufacturer's restore "to factory
condition" it will be blank.

The default Administrator account in both cases will also be blank. If you
have not assigned a password to this account, use it as a backdoor to
change the password on an everyday account that has a forgotten password:
System> Advanced> User> Change Password.

If security is a problem (or if you have kids in the house), you may want
to assign a password to that default account. Before you forget a password,
seriously consider making password reset disks for each account. Very handy
to have these around.

If you're stuck somewhere else, you need to let us know details about the
situation.
