"Boot password"? This is an option of the laptop's BIOS settings and not a
Windows setting. Consult the system documentation for directions on how to
reset that password.
If you are instead referring to a Windows logon password, use the hidden
administrator account to log on and to reset the password for your user
account.
If you have XP Pro, press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice at the welcome screen. When
the Win2000 style logon prompt appears, type Administrator for the user
name and leave the password blank.
If you have XP Home, boot to Safe Mode. User name: Administrator and,
again, enter nothing for the password.
Once logged on, use Control Panel> User Accounts. Select your user account
and remove the password. Or use System> Advanced> User Profiles> Settings>
Select your account and click the Change Password button.
