Greetings !

When I boot up my computer, it insists on asking for a password.

I just click on ENTER and away it goes.

How can I prevent this screen from appearing in the first place ?

Try Power Toy's Tweak UI from Microsoft:

So I did that.
Several times.
However, it doesn't retain the change after switching off, so - erm - it
doesn't work. :(

You have to assign your account a password and use TweakUI to set that
particular user for Automatic Logon - entering the password you assigned to
that user there. And no - the password cannot be blank AFAIK.

To correct:

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, left click "your user name" then clear the Users Must
Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then click
OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the "user name
and password" for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.
