Chris

I have a problem and I was wondering if any of you know
how to fix it. I installed Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1
on my computer over the weekend. It worked fine, but
then I changed the setting in the "System Agent
Checkpoints" and enabled

"Windows Password Protection"
Description: Helps prevent changes to your system that
allows a default password to be set.
DefaultPassword settings bypass the Windows NT Windows
2000, and Windows XP Logon prompt, and automatically
logon.

Well, after I did that when I tried to turn my computer
on it asked for a password the next time, I never set any
password so I have no idea what it is and now I can't get
into my computer. I tried pressing enter with no
password and it doesn't work, I also tried to press
cancel, but that is not an option. Can anyone help me
with this. Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I'm having trouble understanding what is happening here. This checkpoint is
enabled by default--so it is on in each installation of Microsoft
Antispyware.

What this checkpoint is intended to prevent is software setting up an
autologon unbeknownst to the user.

Here's how the description reads:
Windows Password Protection

Status: Active

Description: Prevents changes to your system that allows a default password
to be set.

DefaultPassword settings bypass the Windows NT Windows 2000, and Windows XP
Logon prompt, and automatically logon.

Here's my suggestion:

1) restart your computer in safe mode--by pressing F8 function key before
the first Windows screen comes up.

Try various logins--try your usual name and see if no password works. Try
administrator with no password. If administrator works, see if you can go
to Control Panel, users accounts.

If you hit Change the way users log on or off, you can re-enable the Welcome
screen.
You should also be able to change or remove the password on your normal
account.
