Under power options - Advanced. The Prompt for password when computer
resumes from standby is checked but greyed out. How can I uncheck this box?

Thank you

Do you have a password assigned for the user account? If not, make one
and you'll have the option you are looking for.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did not have a password assigned so I created one. Rebooted the computer
and the checkbox is still greyed out. What next?

Then I'm really not sure. Is this a standalone PC? Did you make any
tweaks with something like TweakUI or a third-party program? I don't
have a lot of experience with standby and its attendant problems since
I never use it. Hopefully someone else will come along with an answer
for you. I'm sorry I wasn't able to solve your issue.

There is a registry option to inhibit this. It might've been turned-on, I
guess.

We tend set this registry inhibit. because if someone leaves a computer
running with documents open behind a locked screensaver, athough an Admin can
overrride the lockout to shut the computer down, no-one can do anything to
save the open documents, which are lost.

The key is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Control
Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaverSecure

Zero inhibits the password, no key or 1 enables it.

My registry stops at Policies. There is no Control Panel etc in that key.

Thanks though.
