I am running windows 2000 professional and set up my
network (which is running great)....except I share a
single printer between 4 other workstations....when I try
to print from one of the remote workstations I get a
message which states a pasword is required to make the
connection?? I never set up any passwords to access
printers...My login apparently is not the password it is
looking for...anyone have an idea? Thank you very much!

Hi

Is this in a workgroup or domain?

Create a local user on the sharing machine that has the same name and
password. If you login as Administrator and the password is the same across
all your systems then you will not be prompted.

I had the same problem: created the accounts (as you described) months
ago but didn't solve the problem.

Do I also need to give users on those other PC's rights to certain
directories (perhaps where print jobs are queued up?) I have long
suspected their remote users need to have write privelages to wherever
Windows (on their PC) is sending the files (on my PC) as part of the
process.

BTW, if I make set the users from those other PC's as Administrators
on my W2K (I have the printer), then they can print!

Thanks,
Bill

\windows\system32\spool\printers read / write (this is where the files
are spooled on the server)

\windows\system32\spool\drivers read

I have seen other drivers write temporary files to \windows\temp and a few
other places. If you can substitute the driver for an inbox replacement see
if the issue is driver dependent.
