My computer is requesting a password and has me locked out of windows.
I have had no password set. When you click it the screen remains with photo
and no programs. There is no response from computer.

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
Did you try just leaving a blank password? If not, please do that. If
you already tried the blank password and that didn't work, then log
into the built-in Administrator account and go to the User Accounts
applet in Control Panel. Make your desired changes.

In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden
Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen,
do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or
have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the
built-in Administrator account's password to a blank.

The most common cause of the system asking for a password (where none
was set) is the addition of the ASP.NET account after you've
installed .NET from Windows Update. My understanding is that if you
update .NET from Windows Update, the issue will be solved.

Otherwise, these things don't happen all by themselves. Perhaps another
user of the computer has done this, or there could be other reasons. I
can't guess without knowing more from you.
