Shawn

I've recently bought a used computer from a friend that he
had sitting around his work for some time. When starting
up the machine it comes to the windows log on screen.
Neither of us know what the password is to the machine to
get it to be usefull at all to me. Is there a way to get
around this password issue with out having to format?
Formating wouldn't really be ideal because I have none of
the hardware device cd's. Thanks for the help!

Shawn, you don't need teh hardware device CD's.
Just need the hardware nomenclature, go to the manf. sites and get the
newest drivers updates.
Depending on the age, W2K should P&P recognize most everything. The problem
might be if you have the O.S. and software.
You'd be much better off with a fresh install. Usually there are some issues
that are going to cause you trouble when you least expect it, and possibly
aren't ready with all backed up. If you decide not to do that though, there
are some software programs you can buy to see and remove the passwords. And
there are some real smart guys in here that can actually tell you how to wax
the passwords.

good luck,

if you need to format for fresh install, I can help with that one.

At
www.securityconfig.com/software/passwordsoftware/123_passwo
rd_recovery_3.01a.html There are several other password
programs as this sight as well. Anyway, it might work if
you make a startup disk with one of these programs on it.
Good Luck
