I am using powerpoint 2000 and I need to send a
presentation to a group of people but it needs to be
confidential - they will also be using powerpoint 2000.
Is there a way of password protecting the document?

I'm using PPT 2003, where I see an option under
Tools>Options and the Security tab to set a password for
Open.

Not really secure given the weaknesses of office document
security, but it should stymie the casual user.

And even if they have the password, all PowerPoint 2000 or previous users, and
all Mac PowerPoint users of any version.

Versions of PPT before 2002 can't open password protected presentations at all
(and when they try, they get a message that suggests the file is corrupt).

Feel the power, but use it wisely. ;-)
