Password protection

Is there a facility whereby I can prevent people accessing
my Outlook while I'm not around yet allowing them to use
my PC otherwise? I'm using Win 2K and Outlook XP on a
standalone home PC - am taking a short break at the
weekend and would like people to be able to use my PC for
their own purposes but not to trawl through my personal
emails obviously.

Give your PST a password - Right click on Outlook Today (Personal Folders)
in the Folders bar. Choose Properties.Click on Advanced and go to "Change
Password". Obviously the Current password is blank!

Did that but unless its just because I'm the one using it
it's not preventing me from accessing any of the folders
and isn't asking for the P/W at any point? Have I missed
something perhaps in this?

it may be one of mine but I don't know because you haven't quoted anything!

The password only prevents people from accessing the pst in the first
place - once its open, then there is no other protection available.

Seriously then - I've no way of preventing anyone from
opening up and reading my emails other than preventing
them having access to the PC perhaps? Haven't tried it
yet but presume if I allocate them a user name they can
still access Outlook in all its glory if it's an available
program in their environment? Must be something more I
could do - no? Just seems strange in this confidential
age to not have more facilities in place for the
purpose. I'm away off hunting for software to maybe
protect the program itself from being run instead, if such
a thing is possible. Maybe I should just stay home :-)))

No, if you set up a password to your pst then other people CANNOT open it
without knowing the password. That is where all your emails are stored so
they CANNOT read your emails.
Once the pst is open, that's a different matter. ie if you leave your
machine, close Outlook!
