password protection

How do you restrict access to the internet without having
to create user accounts for everyone in the family? My
wife and I want to allow our kids to use the internet
only through us. We are concerned about websites that
can still be viewed even with internet security on. Is
there a way to password protect internet access when on
cable connection?

Hi Steve,

Yes, there is. If you don't wnat to use the Content Advisor (HOW TO: Use the
Internet Explorer 6 Content Advisor to Control Access to Web Sites in
Internet Explorer - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310401), there are
third-party tools to restrict internet access
(http://www.hlrnet.com/intprot.htm). And/or you can use the HOSTS file (see
the bottom of that page).

For 3rd party software at that level of control you can try Browse
Control for that sort of thing... i bought it for my company but it
works for home use to... u can specify so your kids can allow access
certain websites, block out any application (in a way so they cant get
around it, unlike policies)...etc.
