Password protection

A colleague of mine has a problem with password protected
worksheets. The sheets were created in Excel 97 and
password protected. Some time ago she was upgraded to
Excel 2000. Yesterday, she tried to open one of the sheets
and it gave her the normal error that the password entered
was wrong, and she is adamant that the password is right.

It is unclear whether the problem started when she was
upgraded, since the upgrade took place some time ago and
she only tried to open one of the files yesterday.

Does anybody have any similar experience or some advice to
share? I will be very grateful.

I've had experiences like this. I like to blame excel, too. (But it's a lie
for me <vbg>!) Tell her to try it after hitting caps lock (a common problem).

And if that doesn't work, then this link:
http://google.com/groups?threadm=#[email protected]
contains a macro posted by Norman Harker and J.E. McGimpsey that removes both
workbook protection and worksheet protection (tools|protection, not passwords to
open).

If you're new to macros, you may want to read David McRitchie's intro at:

Hi,

Passwords are generally backward compatible, therefore I suspect that
the old password may have been forgotten.

In any case, there are many simple tools available to download online
that
can remove password protection in Excel. Some tools are free or very
cheap.

I quote from a recent post which I hope may prove helpful to you...

Please do not attempt to access a file unless you are authorised to do
so.
