Lynn

hi,
i want the user to enter a password before he can see the contents of my
excel file.
how do i go about do this?
thanks

Hi Lynn!

In all Versions it is under the Save As dialog but there are variations:

Excel 97 and, I believe, before
File > Save As
Press Options Button
Select from alternatives available
Impose or Change password
OK
Re-confirm password or passwords
OK
Save

With Excel 2000:
File > Save As > Tools > General Options
Select from alternatives available
Impose or Change password
OK
Re-confirm password or passwords
OK
Save

With Excel 2002(XP) and 2003
Two routes are now available:
Tools > Options > Security
Select from alternatives available
Impose or Change password
Re-confirm password or passwords
OK

OR (As before with Excel 2000)
File > Save As > Tools > General Options
Select from alternatives available
Impose or Change password
Re-confirm password or passwords
OK
Save

Use SaveAs and select options button

This gives access to set 2 passwords

1st password to allow user to open file
2nd password to allow user to modify file
