My pc will be going in for repairs shortly.

I'd like to protect some of my folders. Can folders be individually
password protected under Vista?

Thanks

Not directly.  Even if they could be, any good repair technician worth
his salt could figure out how to bypass the password protection.

You need to get a third-party application that will encrypt as well as
hide folders of your choice.  I've been using Folder Lock, and I'm
pretty satisfied with it.

I've got a copy of TrueCrypt, but I don't think it can be used to
password protect a folder

TrueCrypt *encrypts* folders (that's a bit oversimplified), and it
requires a a password to open them for access.

I have TC, but I think I have to create volumes on virtual drives

I would recommend you buy external USB disk and move sensitive data out of
internal disk to the external disk.

Also if this is a PC (ie not a laptop) and if it contains two internal disks
(one system, one data), you can remove the data disk yourself (or ask
someone who is skilled with such tasks).

Create a Truecrypt container, and move that folder into the container.

Greeting, Wolfgang.
