password protected files on win95 machine

I have a lan with one win95 machine, one win98 machine,
one win98se machine, and one winxp machine all connected
through a router. Every thing works fine except that I
can't access my password protected drives on the 95 with
the xp. I can access all the other drives and printers.
The xp asks for the password but then sets there and does
nothing. doesn't say denied doesn'tsay incorrect
password, nothing, it just sits there. It is not hung, I
can open and close other programs. It is a compaq
machine. I have not disabled he built in firewall in the
xp, but it reads the other drives and files fine, it is
only the password protected drive and file that cause this
problem.

You've hit an obscure bug in winxp. Check the win95 machine's
computer name in Control Panel | Network | Identification. Remove all
blanks (leading, embedded, and trailing) from the name, reboot, and
try accessing it again from winxp.
